In the brutal world of Wraeclast, power is everything. For years, Exiles have defined their builds with a familiar trinity of gems, supports, and passive abilities. While Cold Edge Elementalists and Fireball Elementalists share the same class, they choose distinct build paths based on their chosen element. This update also introduces a new Path of Exile 2 currency, which will play a key role in generating and trading these powerful effects.

Elemental Infusion is a groundbreaking system designed to completely transform traditional build mechanics. At its core, it allows players to imbue weapons and accessories with the pure essence of an element, fundamentally changing how their abilities interact with the world. They’re more than just adding “10-20 points of fire damage” to a sword. Elemental Infusions grant powerful, specialized elements that can completely redefine abilities.

Imagine your physical skill, “Smash,” now casting a divine destruction spell on a critical strike. Imagine a burning treasure chest firing countless kinetic arrows, leaving a trail of frozen energy on the ground to ensnare your enemies. That’s the promise of Elemental Infusion.

At the heart of this new system are Elemental Cores, a new currency in PoE 2. These rare and unique items are the crystallized flesh of powerful elementals, found in the deepest, most dangerous corners of Wraeclast. Cast into a fiery flame, they are imbued with the power of fire and ash. Forged in ancient embers, they are ignited by flesh of ice and tainted ice. They are ignited by pure lightning and consumed by the power of the storm.

To create an Exiled Soul, the Exile must travel to the new Aether Spring—a special location discovered late in the campaign—with a weapon or trinket and its corresponding Core. This process is a gamble. A Scorching Core lets you imbue an amulet with the “Touch of Ashes” effect, causing enemies to vanish in ash, or an axe with the “Lava Eruption” effect, giving slain enemies a chance to explode in a pool of lava.

This system expands the search for powerful items beyond just finding the right base gear and equipping the right mods. Players will now pursue the perfect infusion to complete their character, and elemental cores will become the cornerstone of the trade economy.
